WILLARD IN THE NEWS
DRESS FOR SUCCESS?
08 July 2009

The trend toward allowing employees to dress casually on Fridays doesn’t make sense to Mike Willard.  In his weekly Ukraine Observer webcast, the advertising and public relations executive says that business people should dress “for the moment and the occasion,” rather than bowing to a nonsensical scheme that he says was probably the brainchild of a personnel officer with too little to do.

“Does it makes sense to dress down on a particular day?” Willard asks.  “If it’s good for business and the attitude of employees, why not let employees decide when to come to work in casual wear?  Why not every day?”

“From day to day, I don’t know whether an important client just might drop by.  I don’t know if I might be called out to an important meeting, and I would feel silly dressed down when others are dressed up,” Willard says.
